What is a hydraulic door?

A hydraulic door is a single-piece door that lifts open on hydraulic cylinders, pivoting up and out like an awning. PowerLift builds them custom on an all-welded steel frame for aircraft hangars, shops, farms, and commercial and architectural buildings.

What's the difference between concealed and exposed cylinder doors?

On a concealed cylinder door, the hydraulic cylinders are completely hidden when the door is closed — a clean, architectural look. On an exposed cylinder door, the cylinders are mounted in view — simple, serviceable, and proven. Both are custom-built on all-welded steel.

What door configurations do you offer?

Exposed cylinder doors come in single-panel or bi-fold configurations. Concealed cylinder doors are single-panel. Every door is engineered to your exact opening.

What's the largest door you can build, and the smallest?

Standard exposed cylinder doors run from 4'x4' up to 130' wide and 30' tall, and we can go larger for major projects with specialized engineering. Concealed cylinder doors range up to 30' wide by 12' tall.

Can the door be made of glass, wood, or steel?

Yes. Every PowerLift door can be clad in glass, steel, wood, masonry, or virtually any other material as an optional upgrade — we build the entire door and finish it to match your building or design.

Engineering & Building

How much headroom does a hydraulic door need?

PowerLift doors have the industry's lowest headroom requirement — 0 inches. That lowers construction costs and maximizes your clear opening height.

How does a hydraulic door affect my building's structure?

PowerLift doors impose lower building loads than most doors, distributing weight through the all-welded steel sub-frame rather than point-loading the header. This can reduce building costs.

Do I need extra interior clearance?

No. The door lifts up and out into an awning position rather than sliding back into the building, so it doesn't consume interior space.

Are PowerLift doors ADA compliant?

Yes. Our designs are built with no steps or thresholds, which simplifies full ADA access — especially with our concealed cylinder doors.

Can the door handle high wind loads and local building codes?

Yes. Every door is custom-engineered and built to your local code and wind-load requirements.

Does the open door create a canopy?

Yes. When open, a single-panel PowerLift door forms an awning-style canopy that provides shade and shelter over the opening.

Buying & Process

What is single-source accountability?

It means one local team designs, builds, delivers, installs, and supports your door — no subcontractors assembling doors they didn't build. You have one point of accountability from first drawing to long after installation.

Do you manufacture locally?

Yes. As a locally owned PowerLift location, we fabricate every door here and install it ourselves across our territory — backed by a network of 44 manufacturing locations across North America.

What's the lead time?

Custom fabrication typically takes about six weeks from design to delivery.

How long does installation take?

Most doors are delivered and installed in a single day by our local crew.

What areas do you serve?

We serve all of Oregon, Western Idaho, and Southern Washington, with on-site installation across our full territory.

Do you do both new construction and retrofits?

Both. Our industry-exclusive outside mount can even increase your clear opening height and width when replacing an old bifold, fabric, or overhead door.

Operation & Power

How does the door open?

An electro-hydraulic power unit drives hydraulic cylinders that lift the door open and lower it closed, smoothly and reliably.

What are the power requirements?

Power requirements vary by door size and hydraulic system. We spec the right system for your door and building during design.

What happens during a power outage?

We offer backup operation options — battery, generator, and tractor — so your door keeps working during outages and severe weather.

Can I add remote operation or locks?

Yes. Remote operators, cylinder locks, and custom switch gear can be integrated into any door.

Maintenance & Warranty

How much maintenance does a PowerLift door need?

Most PowerLift doors are zero maintenance. The all-welded steel frame has no bolts or screws to fatigue or loosen over time.

Do I need to grease the hinges?

No. Our hinges use PTFE (Teflon)-infused bronze bushings for permanent, grease-free operation — so you never have to grease a hinge mounted high in the air.

What's the warranty?

Every PowerLift door carries a 7-year structural warranty and a 3-year warranty on hydraulic components.

How long will the door last?

PowerLift builds the industry's only single-unit, all-welded door, engineered to last for decades — with a lifespan measured in decades, not years.

Cost

Why is a hydraulic door a premium product?

Each door is custom-engineered and fabricated from all-welded steel, then delivered and installed by our own team. You're paying for a one-of-a-kind, built-to-last door and single-source accountability — not an off-the-shelf product.

What drives the cost of a custom door?

Size, cladding and finish, options like backup power and remote operation, and site-specific engineering all factor into the price. The best way to get an accurate number is a free quote.

How do I get a quote?

Click "Get a Free Quote" or call (971) 359-3883. We'll review your opening, building, and options, then design a door to your exact needs.
